Cellular Shades vs Roller Shades
Insulating honeycomb vs a single flat panel
Cellular wins on insulation and on a soft, even light — the honeycomb also hides the cord mechanism and gives you top-down/bottom-up. Roller wins on price at most sizes, on a shallow inside mount, and on clean motorization. At a 35×48 window both land in a similar mid band, but quoted per-window prices move with fabric and lift, so read the seller’s line, not the category. Whichever you pick, confirm the inside-mount deduction against the seller’s measuring guide before ordering — custom shades are made to size and generally not returnable.
Cordless vs Corded Lift
A clean cordless mechanism vs a traditional pull cord
Cordless is the default we recommend, and the reason is factual, not dramatic: the U.S. CPSC and the window-covering industry moved stock blinds to cordless because accessible cords are a genuine strangulation hazard to young children and pets. Cordless also looks cleaner and removes the tangled-cord annoyance. Corded lifts survive mainly on very tall or heavy shades and on price. If there are kids or pets in the home, choose cordless or motorized — plainly, without the scare tactics. Confirm the lift option and remake policy before ordering; custom is generally non-returnable.
SelectBlinds vs Blindster
Two DTC sellers, one measuring-and-policy rubric
We grade both sellers on one ledger: are the measuring rules published and specific, is the mount deduction stated plainly, is there a real remake or return-for-mismeasure policy (and who pays), and what is the quoted per-window price at a benchmark 35×48. The verdict lives in the full reviews and moves when a seller changes its policies — that is the point of the method. What this page won’t do is crown a winner on vibes: an affiliate relationship never overrides a weaker measuring guide or a stingier remake policy.
