The Measure-Once Checklist

Custom blinds are made to size and generally not returnable, so the measuring has to be right the first time. This is the exact routine we run before recommending any custom order — printable, no fluff. Every seller applies its own deductions, so confirm the numbers against your seller’s measuring guide before ordering.

  1. Grab a steel tape measure — never cloth, which sags and lies.
  2. Measure width at the top, middle, and bottom; record the narrowest.
  3. Measure height at the left, center, and right; record the longest (or per the seller’s rule).
  4. Measure the flat depth to the glass or nearest hardware at the shallowest point.
  5. Note cranks, handles, and sensors the blind must clear.
  6. Decide inside or outside mount — outside if the frame is shallow or out of square.
  7. For an outside mount, add about 2–3" of overlap on each side and above.
  8. Confirm who applies the deduction in the seller’s measuring guide.
  9. Check the seller’s minimum and flush depth against your measured depth.
  10. Re-measure everything once more, then order — it can’t be returned for a mismeasure.
