Roman Shade

A roman shade is a fabric shade that draws up into horizontal folds as it rises and hangs flat when lowered, giving the soft, upholstered look of drapery in a fitted shade. It takes lining well — blackout, privacy, or interlining — which lets a single design serve a formal living room or a dark bedroom. The trade-offs are real: romans cost more than rollers or cellulars, need more mount depth for the fabric stack, and the folds gather dust. Choose them where the room is a design statement and the window has the depth; skip them where a shallow frame or a tight budget rules.
