SelectBlinds Budget Cordless Light Filtering Cellular Shades Review: What SelectBlinds' Cheapest Custom Cellular Gives Up

SelectBlinds' lowest-priced custom cellular when we checked (2026-09-28): a 9/16-inch single-cell, cordless-only shade in white or gray, custom width but heights in 12-inch steps. What its published specs leave out against the tiers above it.

What the Budget Cordless Light Filtering Cellular Shade is, and who it is for

The Budget Cordless Light Filtering Cellular Shade is the entry point of SelectBlinds' cellular catalog: a single-cell honeycomb shade with a cordless lift, made to your width, with heights in fixed 12-inch steps, sold in two colors, White and Gray. It had the lowest list price among SelectBlinds' cellular lines at the smallest size when we checked (2026-09-28). Everything below is desk-verified from SelectBlinds' published product page, measuring guide and policy pages on 2026-09-28; nothing comes from first-hand use, and where the page is silent the spec is marked "not published." SelectBlinds is this site's affiliate merchant: we may earn a commission if you buy through a link on this page.

SelectBlinds' Shopify catalog carried 76 cellular listings that day, vertical and skylight cellulars included and free sample swatches excluded, and this shade's list price ranked first of them. The vendor field on this listing reads Golden Champion, a name that appears on only two products in the entire catalog, this shade and its blackout twin, plus their free swatches. The other 74 cellular listings come from seven other vendors: Custom Brands Group, HT Window Fashions, Phase II, Blaze Blinds, Lantex, All Strong USA, and LEVOLOR. So the family names are not a good-better-best ladder from one factory; compare by the Specifications tab.

Who it is for is narrow: a window 24 to 72 inches wide and 36 to 72 inches tall where one of the configurator's four height steps works for you, at least an inch and a half of mounting depth for an inside mount, a room where soft daytime light and daytime privacy are the goals, white or gray, and a cordless lift, which is the safer choice in a home with young children and the only lift this shade offers. It suits a rental where you may drill, a spare bedroom, a laundry room, or a first custom order placed to learn the measuring routine. If you want the lowest-priced made-to-width cellular SelectBlinds sells, the Budget Cordless Light Filtering Cellular Shade is where the catalog starts; the rest of this review is what the tiers above it add and whether you need any of it.

Light control: what "light filtering" means on this page

SelectBlinds' own words are the only description that counts, because "light filtering" spans a wide range of opacity across the industry. The product page says the shade is "designed to provide soft, filtered light while maintaining privacy," that the fabric will "gently diffuse sunlight, creating a warm and inviting atmosphere while maintaining daytime privacy," and, in the Good to Know block, that the fabric is "designed to softly filter natural light." Read together, the promise is consistent: daytime privacy with a glow, not darkness.

What the page does not promise matters as much. There is no room-darkening or blackout claim anywhere on the listing, no stated openness or light-transmission figure, and no statement about nighttime privacy. A light-filtering cellular lit from inside at night shows a silhouette from the street; that is how the category works. SelectBlinds sells the same shade in a blackout version, the Budget Cordless Blackout Cellular, from the same maker in the same two colors; its list price ranked 10th of the 76 cellular listings when we checked, so darkness is a step up the ladder. A bedroom that has to be dark is a blackout purchase.

The back of the shade is white, "for a uniform exterior appearance," so the Gray colorway reads gray from inside and white from the street. The fabric is stated as non-woven polyester with a 9/16-inch cell. The page also claims the honeycomb "helps trap air and provide insulation" and that the fabric "helps improve energy efficiency." No certified U-factor is published for this shade, and no standards body publishes an R-value for any cellular shade; the certified data is in the single-cell vs double-cell explainer.

Sizes, limits, and options as published

The Specifications tab is short, and the configurator behind it adds one limit the tab does not mention.

  • Width: 24 to 72 inches, entered to the eighth of an inch.
  • Height: up to 72 inches per the Specifications tab, which states no minimum. The configurator data on the same page is stricter: heights start at 36 inches and move in 12-inch steps, so the heights on offer are 36, 48, 60, and 72 inches, and the height field has no fraction selector, while the width field does.
  • Mounting depth: 1 1/2 inches minimum for an inside mount; 2 1/4 inches for a flush inside mount.
  • Outside mount: 1 1/4 inches of minimum flat mounting space.
  • Headrail: 1 1/2 inches high and 1 3/4 inches deep.
  • Cell size: 9/16 inch, single cell.
  • Lift: Cordless Lift, and only Cordless Lift. The Dimensions by Configuration table has one row.
  • Mount type: Inside or Outside.
  • Colors: White and Gray.
  • Hardware: all mounting hardware and instructions included; shades under 36 inches wide ship with two brackets, shades 37 inches and wider with three.
  • Production: "Orders typically ship within 1-2 business days," and the page asks you to allow 1 to 7 additional business days for shipping, which is free inside the contiguous United States.
  • Install difficulty: the page ranks it "Level 1."

Now what is absent, because the tiers above are defined by these lines and this page has none of them. No top-down/bottom-up. No continuous cord loop for tall or heavy shades. No motorized wand, no app-driven Automation, no remote. No Click2Fit no-drill mount. No hold-down brackets, extension brackets, or spacer blocks for windows with protruding trim. Where the Premier Double Cellular Light Filtering shade lists seven lift styles plus a no-drill mount, sizes from 13 to 120 inches wide depending on lift, heights in eighth-inch steps, and 27 colors, this page lists one configuration, a 24-to-72-inch width range, four height steps, and two colors. The base Cordless Light Filtering Cellular line sits between the two on the price ladder, ranked 7th, with eight catalog colors and a 3-day production tag; its specs were not re-verified for this review, so check its Specifications tab before assuming parity.

The 72-inch ceiling rules out patio sliders, picture windows, and tall stairwell glass; the 24-inch width floor and 36-inch height floor rule out narrow bathroom windows and short transoms, where the Premier Double's cordless configuration starts at 13 inches wide and 12 tall. The height steps also make this a custom-width shade rather than a fully custom one.

Measuring for this shade: inside vs outside mount

Custom blinds are made to your numbers and are generally not returnable, and every seller applies its own deductions, so the Measuring tab on the product page governs your order, not a general guide.

Inside mount. First confirm depth against the Specifications tab: 1 1/2 inches minimum, 2 1/4 inches to sit flush. Measure the width at the top, middle, and bottom of the opening and write down the narrowest of the three to the nearest eighth, rounding a sixteenth or a thirty-second down. SelectBlinds takes the deduction at the factory: "We will make all the necessary deductions based on the measurements you provide. Do not make your own deductions. Don't add to the width to make up for any deductions that we will take." The page adds that small gaps are normal, with a stated tolerance of plus or minus an eighth of an inch, and that inside-mounted shades "may have slight gaps on the sides or top."

Height is where this shade departs from its own instructions. The Measuring tab gives the same height rule as the Premier Double's page: measure at the left, center, and right, from the top of the opening to the sill, record the largest, and round up to the nearest eighth. This shade's configurator cannot take that number; its data allows only 36, 48, 60, or 72 inches. The page does not say which step to choose when your window falls between two of them, or how a shade taller than the opening sits in an inside mount. Ask Customer Care in writing before you order and keep the reply. The page's advice to order similar-height windows in one room at the largest height, so the pleats match, still applies.

One more wrinkle: a Recommendations line on the same page says to "use the top measurement when ordering," which disagrees with the Measuring tab. On an out-of-square opening the narrowest width is the one that clears the frame, so follow the Measuring tab.

Outside mount. SelectBlinds builds an outside mount "to the exact dimensions you provide" with "no automatic additions." Measure the width in three places and take the widest, then add the recommended minimum of 4 inches; measure the height in three places, take the largest, and add the recommended minimum of 4 inches, remembering that the height you enter still has to be one of the four steps. You also need 1 1/4 inches of flat surface above the window for the brackets. An outside mount is the answer when depth is short of 1 1/2 inches, when the window is out of square, or when you want more light blocked than an inside mount's edge gaps allow; the trade-offs are in inside vs outside mount.

The Measure and Fit Checker returns the typical deduction rule for your mount and product type, a typical minimum inside-mount depth to confirm, and a printable measure checklist. Its typical figure for cellular shades is 3/4 inch; this shade needs 1 1/2 inches, so go by the Specifications tab. Use a steel tape; the page says so.

Price position at analysis, and the tiers above it

When we checked on 2026-09-28, this shade had the lowest list price among SelectBlinds' cellular lines at the smallest size, which for this shade is 24 by 36 inches, the smallest its configurator accepts. Prices change with size and SelectBlinds' rolling promotions; the Where to buy box below shows the price we last recorded, and the seller's configurator is the only price that counts.

Where the catalog's own rungs sit, by list price:

Ranks compare list prices in SelectBlinds' Shopify catalog on 2026-09-28 across all 76 cellular listings, before any promotion; ties share a rank, and the gaps in the column are lines not shown here. Color counts and production tags are the catalog's own.

Every rung in the table above the Budget lists more colors, and the Premier Double adds the lifts, sizes, and eighth-inch heights described above. The price gap is per window, so the Budget's advantage counts most across a whole floor of plain windows. Our cheap-blinds roundup covers this shade alongside other low-cost SelectBlinds lines, and cellular vs roller shades compares the two types.

Order free samples first; the picker reads "Choose up to 30 samples for free," and a swatch against your own glass is the only way to see how much light "light filtering" lets through.

FIT Protection, returns, and warranty

The lowest-priced product gets the same policy set as the most expensive one; the full read is in the SelectBlinds seller review.

Returns. The returns page states: "because all of our blinds and shades are custom made, we cannot offer a refund or exchange (remake) unless a product is defective." A measuring mistake is not a return; it is a FIT Protection claim.

FIT Protection: Measuring Guarantee. Per the guarantees page, "Our FIT Protection can be selected at the time you order for free. It covers ANY window covering that you order from us." The terms set the limits: claims within 90 days of the original order's purchase date; the corrected size within 2 inches per side of what you ordered, with a width-for-height transposition counting as a qualifying error inside that tolerance; one remake per covered product; four total remakes per household over the customer's lifetime; shipping charges on the remake; a possible charge for any price difference; and "no cash refunds are available through FIT Protection: Measuring Guarantee." Bulk orders of 25 or more products, awnings, and trade, business, or reseller accounts are excluded, and coverage is for the customer's personal residence. Add it at checkout; it costs nothing and it is the only safety net a custom order has.

The review window. The terms allow "a 4-hour review period after such orders are placed before sending the orders to our production facility." With this page saying orders typically ship within 1-2 business days, that window is the whole margin for catching a typo.

Warranty. The configurator offers three warranty tiers: a 3-Year Limited Warranty, which the page labels free, a 5-Year Limited, and a 5-Year Unlimited. The page text states no price for the two 5-year tiers, so check the configurator before you choose. The base warranty "covers any defects ... in materials and workmanship for up to three (3) years, so long as the product is installed in accordance with the installation instructions," with "a flat $15 return shipping charge" as the customer's only cost on a claim, and the warranty page adds: "After 3 years: $5 charge for parts."

Change of mind. SelectBlinds also describes a change-of-mind remake, and its returns page and its terms word the accompanying adjustment in conflicting ways. Get the current wording from Customer Care in writing before you rely on it.

The honest cons

The size envelope is small. 24 to 72 inches wide and 36 to 72 inches tall rules out sliders, picture windows, short transoms, and most stairwell glass, with no cord-loop option to carry a bigger shade.

Heights come in four steps, not eighths. The configurator allows 36, 48, 60, or 72 inches, the Measuring tab still tells you to round height to the eighth, and the page does not say how to pick between steps. Get SelectBlinds' answer in writing.

Depth is the strictest in the group this review checked. 1 1/2 inches minimum for an inside mount, against 1 1/4 inches for the Premier Double's cordless lift and 3/4 inch for its cord-loop and motorized lifts. Shallow modern frames push you to an outside mount.

Two colors, one lift, no add-ons. No top-down/bottom-up, no motorization, no no-drill mount, no hold-down or extension brackets.

The page argues with itself on width. The Measuring tab says to take the narrowest of three readings; the Recommendations block says "top measurement." Follow the Measuring tab.

Insulation is a claim, not a rating. No certified U-factor is published for this shade, and no standards body publishes an R-value for any cellular shade.

Who should pass

Pass if your window is narrower than 24 inches, shorter than 36, or taller or wider than 72; if your height falls between the steps and SelectBlinds cannot tell you in writing how the shade will sit; if you have less than 1 1/2 inches of depth and do not want an outside mount; if you need top-down/bottom-up for a street-facing bedroom or bathroom; if you want motorization on a hard-to-reach window; if you need a color other than white or gray; or if the room has to be dark, which is a blackout purchase. Pass also if you are ordering for a business or a bulk job of 25 or more units, because FIT Protection excludes both and this shade's whole value is the low price plus the safety net.

If any of those applies, the Premier Double Cellular covers the size, depth, lift, and height gaps from the lower third of the price ladder, and the graded picks across the category are in the best cellular shades of 2026 and the cellular shades buyer's page.

Verdict

The Budget Cordless Light Filtering Cellular Shade is the right buy for a plain, mid-sized window where soft light and a cordless lift are the whole brief, and the wrong buy for anything the Specifications tab does not list. With the lowest list price among SelectBlinds' cellular lines when we checked (2026-09-28), and the same FIT Protection, the same 3-year warranty, and the same factory-applied deductions as every other line SelectBlinds sells, it is the lowest-cost low-risk way to learn custom cellular shades.

What you give up is concrete: colors, lifts, add-ons, depth tolerance, eighth-inch heights, and a size envelope that stops at 72 inches where the Premier Double's cord-loop configuration reaches 120. What you keep is the policy set that protects a first-time measurer. Measure three times, enter the narrowest width, settle the height step with SelectBlinds in writing, add FIT Protection at checkout, and order one shade before the rest of the floor. The Budget Cordless Light Filtering Cellular Shade is desk-verified from SelectBlinds' published product page, measuring guide and policy pages on 2026-09-28; confirm the live page before you order, because specs and policy text change.

Article FAQ

What sizes does the Budget Cordless Light Filtering Cellular Shade come in?

The Specifications tab lists a width of 24 to 72 inches and a height of up to 72 inches, with no minimum height stated. The configurator data behind the page is stricter on height: it starts at 36 inches and moves in 12-inch steps, so the heights on offer are 36, 48, 60, and 72 inches. Windows narrower than 24 inches or wider than 72 need a different line; the Premier Double Cellular's cordless configuration runs 13 to 84 inches wide.

Does the Budget shade come in blackout?

Not this listing. It is light filtering only, with no room-darkening or blackout claim on the page. SelectBlinds sells a separate Budget Cordless Blackout Cellular Shade from the same maker in the same two colors, at a higher list price when we checked on 2026-09-28.

How much mounting depth does an inside mount need?

1 1/2 inches minimum, and 2 1/4 inches to recess the headrail fully. Check depth first; it is the requirement shallow frames most often fail. If your frame is shallower, order an outside mount with at least 1 1/4 inches of flat surface above the window.

Do I subtract anything for an inside mount?

No. SelectBlinds says it will make all the necessary deductions from the measurements you provide and tells you not to make your own or add to the width to compensate. Enter the narrowest of three width readings rounded down to the nearest eighth. Height works differently on this shade: the configurator takes only 36, 48, 60, or 72 inches, so confirm in writing which step to order if your window falls between two.
