roundup · Comparisons

Which blinds or shades suit a French door, and where can you order them online? This page sets each seller's door products against what matters on a door. The facts were read from the sellers' own pages on October 6 and re-read on October 12 and October 20, 2026; nothing here comes from first-hand use. SelectBlinds is this site's affiliate merchant: we may earn a commission if you buy through a link on this page. SelectBlinds is the only seller on this list that pays this site; none of the others does. SelectBlinds' and Blinds.com's policy pages were re-read on 2026-10-20.

How the picks were judged

Here, best means best for a French door, judged only on each seller's own pages, re-read on 2026-10-20: mount and depth against the handle; hold-down brackets, so the bottom stays put; a no-drill option; whether the treatment clears the glass when raised; door sizes; lead time, from each seller's own start point; and measuring cover. A cell that says not published means the seller says nothing on the pages read.

Three more sellers published no French-door product facts. The only door mention found at The Shade Store was a cellular "Multiple On 1" option for "large windows and doors"; Costco's Bali storefront has a page for patio and sliding doors that does not mention French doors; Hunter Douglas lists door coverings without naming French doors and says its products "are not currently sold online". Home Depot and Lowe's are not in the table: their own pages could not be read by our tools on 2026-10-06.

1. SelectBlinds 2 in. faux wood blinds: best for a blind held down at the bottom

Best for: a door you can drill, where the blind should stay put each time the door opens; SelectBlinds includes hold-down brackets on its Lightblock line.

SelectBlinds' door collection says "Select Faux Wood, Wood and Mini Blinds can also work for French doors", and its FAQ says "qualifying" ones, depending on the door. Two 2 in. faux wood lines sit in that collection's grid; of their two product pages, only Classic's hold-down note mentions a door. On the Lightblock line, "Hold down brackets are included with blinds." Its orders "typically ship within 4-5 business days". On the Classic line the brackets are optional, but "Hold Down Brackets are not available with Inside Mount." Its orders "typically ship within 2-3 business days".

Neither page gives a handle-clearance figure or a door size. Blinds.com's 1 inch figure is for 1 in. blinds, roller and honeycomb shades, and no seller here relates it to 2 in. slats, so check the room behind your handle first. See minimum mount depth by product.

2. SelectBlinds' no-drill Roman shades for doors: best for a door you will not drill

Best for: a renter, or anyone who will not drill the door, who can live with fabric that never fully clears the glass; SelectBlinds sells three such lines.

SelectBlinds sells three no-drill Roman shade lines for doors, Classic Casual, Bespoke and Designer. All three pages say "Perfect for French Doors" and list the same limits:

  • "Only available in outside mount."
  • "Hold down brackets are not available on this product."
  • "We do not recommend installing Adjustable Roman Door Shades directly to your window pane."
  • The adhesive is "less effective on textured surfaces like walls or raw wood".
  • The straps never fold the shade all the way up: "fabric will always cover approximately 1/4 of the door".

They are 1/4 in. deep with a 1 in. headrail, 24 to 84 in. wide and 36 to 96 in. high, and SelectBlinds recommends adding "4+ inches" to the width. All three lines "typically ship within 5-7 business days". If those limits suit your door, see SelectBlinds' no-drill Roman shades for doors. Colours differ by line: on 2026-10-06 Storm Gray was on the Classic Casual page. That day the door collection (at 24 x 36 in.) and the Bespoke page (no size stated) showed different prices for the same line; check yours at your size.

3. Blinds.com: best for French-door shutters and a handle-clearance figure

Best for: a shutter sized for French doors, or clearance guidance for a slim blind or shade; Blinds.com prints a 1 inch handle-clearance figure.

Its French-door page says door treatments are outside mounts because "the French door window has no depth". It says most 1 in. blinds, roller shades and honeycomb shades fit behind the handle if there is 1 inch of clearance, that Roman shades' "flat construction should fit behind the door handles", and to "use hold down brackets to keep the bottom of the blind or shade in place". Its blog post dated 2022-01-05 adds that "spacer blocks or projection brackets can help you clear thick trim", and the Bali Cellular Shades page on Blinds.com says "Hold-downs are recommended on French or glass doors".

Levolor French Door Shutters are "Ideal for French Doors and doors with lever-style handles": outside mount only, L-Frame only, 18 to 36 in. wide, with an estimated ship date of 10/28/2026 shown on October 20, 2026.

Where Blinds.com's pages disagree. The 2022-01-05 blog post says "shutters are typically not recommended for French doors as they often require a lot of depth or an extensive build out to be able to tilt the louvers." The product page calls its shutters ideal for French doors, and the in-home shutter FAQ lists "sliding glass doors to French doors" among the places "interior shutters can be installed".

4. JustBlinds Aluminum Blinds: best for a slim metal blind at a published price

Best for: a door with little room in front of the glass, with a price shown up front; JustBlinds credits its "small slat size and slim profile".

The home-page tile says "Coverage for framed glass and French doors." and showed $76.00 at 24 x 36 in. on October 20, 2026. The product page credits the "small slat size and slim profile" for doors, and its hold-down upgrade is "Especially useful on doors", to stop the blinds "swinging out when the door is used". Blinds are "Normally made in: 6 business days", then delivered in 1-5 business days once shipped, per the FAQ.

5. Blindster: best for French-door hold-down rules across many styles

Best for: comparing styles, if a held-down blind that stays down suits you; Blindster's door page lists seven styles.

Blindster's door page lists cellular, bamboo woven wood, wood, faux wood, aluminum, pleated and solar for French doors, ordered as outside mounts on the face of the door. It says "On French doors, you'll attach the bottom of the blind or shade to the door with special hold-down brackets." and warns that the blind then covers the window all the time: "you won't be able to raise the blind". The door page's product grid did not load on 2026-10-06, so door-product clearances, sizes and prices are not published on the pages that could be read. Fit-or-Free covers a measuring mistake reported within 60 days of delivery; you pay $20 shipping per product, and LEVOLOR products are excluded.

Measuring a French door

  • Blindster: "At least an inch past the window edges on each side is recommended", plus an inch or two below the glass for the hold-downs.
  • Blinds.com (blog, 2022-01-05): check that the outside mounting surface leaves "enough flat surface for the shade to be installed".

New to outside mounts? See inside vs outside mount. Fabric is easier to judge in hand, so order SelectBlinds' free samples before you choose; its samples page allows 30 per order, its terms 15 at one time.

If the size is wrong. SelectBlinds' FIT Protection is an opt-in add-on, free as of October 20, 2026 ("Insure measurements" on its product pages): claim within 90 days of the original order, corrected size within 2 in. per side, one remake per covered product. It "does not apply to improper installation, mounting method selection, or failure to follow installation instructions." The guarantees page and the terms' FIT section say a remake ships "at no additional cost". Other windows start elsewhere: Blinds.com, 30 calendar days from receipt; Blindster, 60 days from delivery; JustBlinds, 30 days after delivery, and only with its paid Deluxe Warranty.

Where other sellers beat SelectBlinds

  • A handle-clearance figure: Blinds.com prints 1 inch; SelectBlinds prints none.
  • Shutters sized for French doors: Blinds.com's Levolor line.
  • Cellular shades named for doors: Blinds.com and Blindster name them for French doors. SelectBlinds' door collection does not; its Premier cellular page, which never mentions doors, says "Hold down brackets available upon request for inside mount" (read on October 12, 2026).
  • A mount change after a measuring mistake: SureFit allows changes to "size and mount"; SelectBlinds' FIT terms exclude "mounting method selection".
  • Measuring and installing for you: Blinds.com and Hunter Douglas dealers offer both; SelectBlinds says it does not offer "in-home services like measuring or installation".

Where SelectBlinds is strong: measuring cover with 90 days to claim (free as of October 20, 2026, as is Blinds.com's; JustBlinds charges for its own), hold-down brackets included on Lightblock, and, of the seven sellers read, the only no-drill door product.

Verdict

For a door you can drill, Blinds.com, Blindster and JustBlinds all advise holding the blind down, and SelectBlinds' 2 in. Lightblock faux wood includes the brackets, and FIT Protection is free at checkout; check the room behind your handle first. For a door you will not drill, SelectBlinds is the only one of the seven sellers read that names a no-drill door product, its peel-and-stick Roman shades, but they take no hold-downs and always cover about a quarter of the door. Choose Blinds.com for French-door shutters or professional measuring, and JustBlinds for a slim aluminum blind at a published price.

Article FAQ

What are the best blinds for French doors?

Slim treatments mounted outside the glass and held down at the bottom. Blinds.com names 1 in. blinds and roller, cellular and Roman shades; SelectBlinds, Roman shades for doors and qualifying faux wood, wood and mini blinds; JustBlinds, aluminum blinds.

Are there no drill blinds for French doors?

Of the seven sellers whose pages were read, only SelectBlinds names one: its "dedicated" peel-and-stick Roman shades for doors. They mount outside only, take no hold-downs, should not go on the glass, and always cover about a quarter of the door.

How much do blinds cost for French doors?

On October 20, 2026 two prices were published at a stated size: JustBlinds' Aluminum Blinds at $76.00 for 24 x 36 in., and Blinds.com's Levolor French Door Shutters "Starting At $376.41" at the same size. Blinds.com offers a Measurement Assurance Check plus installation on unlimited windows, shutters excluded, at $199 in its installers FAQ and on its samples-page tile; SelectBlinds does not install.

Do blinds on French doors need hold-down brackets?

Blinds.com and Blindster say to use them on French doors, and JustBlinds calls its upgrade "Especially useful on doors". Blindster adds that a held-down blind cannot be raised.

Can you put shutters on French doors?

Blinds.com's pages disagree: its 2022-01-05 blog says shutters are "typically not recommended for French doors", while its Levolor French Door Shutters page says "Ideal for French Doors and doors with lever-style handles". Blindster's shutters have an outside L-Frame that can mount "onto the trim, the wall, or a door".
