Costco Custom Blinds vs Ordering Online (2026)

Should you buy custom blinds through Costco or order them online from SelectBlinds, and where do the two differ? Everything below was read from the sellers' own pages on October 6 and re-read on October 12 and October 20, 2026; nothing here comes from first-hand use. The SelectBlinds policy pages were saved on 2026-10-05 and re-read on 2026-10-20, the date its column carries. The short answer. The Costco program read here is online too: Bali's own storefront, baliblinds.costco.com, for Costco members, so with either store you measure and install yourself. Choose the Bali storefront for warranty length: Bali Custom Window Treatments carry a Limited Lifetime Warranty, against SelectBlinds' free 3-Year Limited. Choose SelectBlinds if you worry about measuring: its FIT Protection, free at checkout as of October 20, 2026, covers a size error claimed within 90 days of the order, while the Bali storefront pages read publish no measuring guarantee.

What Costco's custom blinds program is

The storefront says: "You have left Costco.com and are now on the Bali Blinds website." It is "Available exclusively online for Costco members", sells Bali products only, and says Bali "is a brand and registered trademark of Springs Window Fashions". This page covers that storefront only; no other Costco window-covering program was read.

Which is cheaper?

This page has no blind or shade price from the Bali storefront at a stated size, so it cannot say which store is cheaper for blinds and shades. The one dated, same-size comparison in the pages read is shutters at 24 × 36 in., re-read on October 20, 2026:

• Bali storefront: DIY Shutters (composite) at $141.00, with no promotion shown on the page.
• SelectBlinds: Contemporary Frameless Kit (PVC) $149.94 and Contemporary Faux Wood (poly) $335.94, with no sale price shown; Classic Faux Wood $262.77 (regular $437.94) and Click2Fit No Drill (aluminum frame, PVC panels) $433.20 (regular $721.99), on sale.

Samples and swatches

The Bali storefront offers complimentary swatches: "order up to ten swatches for a closer look." It publishes no delivery time, and its FAQ says "quotes and swatch orders cannot be cancelled".

SelectBlinds' pages disagree on how many samples. The samples page says "You may select up to 30 free samples in one sample order"; the terms say 15, while the About Us page says up to 30. Standard sample shipping is free; the samples page and the terms say samples usually arrive in 3–5 business days, while a help-centre article says 4–6 via USPS. Measuring, consultations and remakes

Neither store measures or installs for you, on the pages read. SelectBlinds says: "We're a fully online DIY company, so we don't offer in-home services like measuring or installation." The Bali storefront pages read describe no in-home consultation, measuring or installation: its how-to-measure page leaves the job to you ("Then, start measuring!"), and its home page offers an online "Product Advisor" questionnaire. Costco's return-policy page lists an exception for "Special Order Kiosk and Custom Installed Programs"; the pages read do not say whether the Bali storefront is one of them.

If you measure wrong at SelectBlinds, FIT Protection: Measuring Guarantee is an opt-in add-on, free as of October 20, 2026 (help centre: a remake applies "if it was added to your order at the time of purchase"), whether that is a cellular shade or a faux wood blind. The terms allow claims within 90 days of the original order, one remake per covered product and at most four per household over your lifetime. The corrected size must be "within two (2) inches per side" of the original; you may pay any price difference; FIT gives no cash refunds and does not cover "improper installation, mounting method selection, or failure to follow installation instructions".

What FIT covers: SelectBlinds' pages disagree. The guarantees page says "Our FIT Protection can be selected at the time you order for free. Available for ANY window covering that you order from us."; the terms exclude out-of-spec sizes, bulk orders of 25 or more products, awnings and trade accounts. Both pages say SelectBlinds will remake the product "and ship it to you at no additional cost".

The Bali storefront publishes no measuring guarantee. Its FAQ answer to a measuring mistake is "Contact Bali Customer Service for assistance." Its warranty excludes "failure to follow instructions for measurement, installation, use, cleaning, or maintenance" and does not cover "Shipping or labor costs incurred by taking product down, re-measuring, or re-installation". Returns, change of mind and order changes

Costco returns for Bali storefront orders are unresolved on the pages read. The Bali FAQ answers the exchange question with "Visit Costco’s Return Policy page." That page says Costco "will refund your purchase price*, with the following exceptions", and one exception reads: "Special Order Kiosk and Custom Installed Programs: Custom product(s) manufactured to our member’s personal and unique specifications cannot be returned or refunded, except for warranty repair/replacement due to failure to meet specifications." Neither line names the Bali storefront, so the pages read do not settle which rule applies.

SelectBlinds says no: "we cannot offer a refund or exchange unless a product is defective". For a change of mind it offers a discounted replacement within 90 days, but its pages disagree on the deal: the guarantees and returns pages offer the same product and size at the price paid plus an additional 10% off; the terms say "minus 10% off"; a help-centre article allows "a reorder of a different product within 90 days". For a defect, the returns page promises repair or replacement at no cost for 90 days from purchase and says "We also cover return shipping for eligible repairs or replacements", while the warranty page names "a flat $15 return shipping charge"; neither says whether these are two programmes.

Changing an order: SelectBlinds gives standard orders a 4-hour review period before production, with no changes after it, on expedited orders or after "Bypass Review". Its terms say change by email or a call; a help-centre article says cancel and re-order. The Bali storefront publishes no change window; to cancel, its FAQ says "Contact Costco Customer Service at 800-955-2292." Only product orders can be cancelled.

Warranty

The Bali storefront is better on warranty length. Bali Custom Window Treatments carry a Limited Lifetime Warranty covering "Original defects in materials or workmanship for as long as the original purchaser owns the product (unless shorter periods are noted below), provided the product was properly installed". Shorter periods apply, such as three years from purchase for operating cords and five for motorization components. Bali Essentials get a "5-Year Limited Warranty"; the pages read do not say which tier covers DIY Shutters. Accidents are excluded; pets are not named.

The home page promises "the Costco warranty you love", but the linked warranty is Bali's and the warrantor is Springs Window Fashions: claims go to its customer service at 1-800-221-6352, "must be accompanied by the original sales receipt", and "It is at the sole discretion of Springs Window Fashions to determine whether product will be replaced or repaired."

SelectBlinds' free 3-Year Limited Warranty "comes standard with every residential purchase" and covers defects in materials and workmanship if the product was installed per its instructions. Paid upgrades: a 5-Year Limited (same coverage, two years longer) and a 5-Year Unlimited that "covers virtually everything", including blinds that "become the dog's or cat's favorite play toy". Repair or replacement is at its discretion, and it cannot guarantee motor and remote parts beyond the manufacturer's original warranty period. To claim, its help centre says to call (888) 257-1840.

Lead time and shipping

• Bali storefront: "Standard blinds and shades are normally delivered two weeks after your order is processed." Tailored Roman shades take three weeks, custom shutters six to eight.
• SelectBlinds: each product page gives a ship window in business days, then adds "1 to 7 additional business days for shipping". On the product pages re-read on 2026-10-20, these ran from 1–2 business days (a budget cordless cellular shade) to 7–10 (its shutters), while the contact page says "most orders ship within 5 to 10 business days". Expedited shipping does not shorten production.

Shipping costs, as each store's pages state on 2026-10-20:

• Bali storefront: the home page says "Complimentary shipping in the U.S.*", and the asterisk leads to the FAQ: no additional cost for standard sizes in the 48 continental states, $95 for blinds over 96 in. in width or height, and $75 (standard sizes) or $155 (over 96 in.) to Alaska and Hawaii.
• SelectBlinds: free standard shipping to the continental United States on all original orders; expedited costs extra. Beyond the contiguous 48 states its pages disagree: the About Us page says "additional shipping charges may apply"; the terms say "Shipping includes the continental U.S. only.", and a help-centre article says it is "unable to fulfill orders to destinations outside this region, including Alaska, Hawaii".

Help and contact

Bali's pages disagree on its support hours. The contact page gives 1-800-538-9419, Monday to Friday, 9:00 am to 4:00 pm EST; the DIY Shutters page gives the same number, Monday to Friday, 9:00am to 6:00pm EST. SelectBlinds' phones run 6:00 AM to 5:00 PM PST on weekdays and 6:00 AM to 2:00 PM PST on Saturday and Sunday, and web messages get a reply "within 24 hours".

Where each side is better

Costco's Bali storefront is better on warranty length (Limited Lifetime on Bali Custom, 5 years on Bali Essentials, against SelectBlinds' free 3), on motorization cover (5 years on Bali Custom; SelectBlinds cannot guarantee motor parts beyond the manufacturer's original warranty period) and on published Alaska and Hawaii shipping rates.

SelectBlinds is better on measuring mistakes (a free FIT Protection remake against no published guarantee), on samples (15 or 30 against ten), on contiguous-US shipping (free standard shipping on all original orders, per its terms; Bali charges $95 over 96 in.), on a published 4-hour change window, on a phone design consultant and weekend hours, and on paid accident and pet cover.

Verdict

Pick Costco's Bali storefront if you are a Costco member who values the longer warranty: Bali Custom carries a Limited Lifetime Warranty, and its Alaska and Hawaii shipping rates are published. Pick SelectBlinds if you are measuring for the first time: a free FIT Protection remake covers size errors within 2 in. per side claimed within 90 days of the order, shipped at no additional cost. Either way you measure and install yourself.
