Can You Return Custom Blinds? Returns and Remakes by Seller

Mostly no refunds, but SelectBlinds (90 days, free cover), Blinds.com (30 days) and Blindster (60 days) will remake a blind you mis-measured, each with its own limits.

Can you return custom blinds, and which sellers remake an order you measured wrong? This page sets out the return, remake and measuring-guarantee terms of nine sellers, read from the sellers' own pages on October 6 and re-read on October 12 and October 20, 2026; nothing here comes from first-hand use. SelectBlinds is this site's affiliate merchant: we may earn a commission if you buy through a link on this page.

The short answer: mostly no refunds, but some remakes. SelectBlinds and Hunter Douglas say a custom product cannot be refunded or exchanged unless it is defective, and The Shade Store says it "does not offer returns". Three online sellers instead remake a blind you measured wrong: SelectBlinds (free at checkout; claims within 90 days of the order), Blinds.com (30 calendar days from receipt) and Blindster (60 days from delivery, with $20 shipping per product). JustBlinds does it only under a paid warranty upgrade, and The Shade Store offers a one-time 40% discount on a replacement.

Can you return custom blinds?

Almost never for cash; Blindster's 60-day guarantee is the main exception:

  • SelectBlinds: "we cannot offer a refund or exchange unless a product is defective", and returns "must be approved by us in writing".
  • The Shade Store: "Due to the custom nature of our products, The Shade Store does not offer returns."
  • Hunter Douglas: "not exchangeable unless defective according to the Hunter Douglas Lifetime Limited Warranty".
  • Blinds.com: cancel within 24 calendar hours and it refunds you; after that it cannot "refund any money or issue any credits" on a card purchase.
  • Blindster, the exception: if it is "unable to make you happy" within 60 days of delivery, it helps you return the order "for an exchange or refund". Refunds are capped at $500 per person, household or address within any 12-month period, return shipping is not refunded, and LEVOLOR products, closeouts and commercial orders are excluded.
  • JustBlinds: returns only with prior authorization, in original condition, within 30 calendar days of receipt, with return shipping paid by you.
  • 3 Day Blinds: no refunds "unless specifically indicated on a Site or in a Return Policy", and no return policy appears on the pages read.
  • Budget Blinds: no return terms on the national site; each franchise is "independently owned and operated".
  • Costco's Bali storefront, unresolved: the Bali FAQ answers the exchange question with "Visit Costco’s Return Policy page." That page promises to "refund your purchase price" with exceptions, one being that custom products from "Special Order Kiosk and Custom Installed Programs" "cannot be returned or refunded". Neither line names the Bali storefront.

SelectBlinds gives orders with standard production and shipping a 4-hour review period, with no changes after it, none on expedited orders and none if you click "Bypass Review". Its pages disagree on how to change inside those 4 hours: the terms say email or a call to 1-888-257-1840, a help-centre article says cancel and place a new order. Blinds.com's pages disagree on its window: 24 hours on the order-policies page, while the change-order page says that after 12 hours "changes cannot be made to the product". JustBlinds allows 24 calendar hours; Blindster allows 1 business day on products made in 3 or more business days.

Which sellers remake for free if you measure wrong?

SelectBlinds FIT Protection is an opt-in add-on, free as of October 20, 2026 (help centre: a remake applies "if it was added to your order at the time of purchase"), whether that is a cellular shade or a faux wood blind. Claims must be submitted within 90 days of the original order: one remake per covered product, at most four per household over your lifetime. The corrected size must be "within two (2) inches per side" of the original (a swapped width and height counts if it stays within that); a bigger change is "treated as a new order at customer cost". You pay any price difference, and FIT gives no cash refunds.

Blinds.com SureFit: "If you made a mistake measuring your blind, we'll remake it at no cost to you", on most products, within 30 calendar days of receiving the package. Limit one remake per item and four per household per lifetime, unless the error is Blinds.com's. "Changes are restricted to size and mount only", with no refunds; you pay only a price difference or a shipping fee that depends on size or location.

Blindster Fit-or-Free: report within 60 days of delivery and it remakes the blinds "in the sizes you need free of charge", but you pay $20 shipping per product, an $85 oversize freight fee on products 90 in. or wider and on all shutters, and any price difference. The page sets a limit of three remakes per order and/or product (one for shutters) and also says the offer "is available one time per person per lifetime"; it does not say how the two limits combine. The remake must be the same product, colour and options, and it cannot then be returned.

JustBlinds puts its 30-Day Measure Protection inside the Deluxe Warranty, a one-time charge that "varies depending on the product": a misfit "due to a measuring mistake" reported within 30 days after delivery is remade at no cost, one per product. The Standard Warranty "does not cover color, style or size".

The Shade Store names no measuring guarantee. If your measurements were "slightly off", it will "work with you": a too-wide treatment may be cut down; if not, you may get the one-time 40% Reorder Discount on a replacement, valid 30 days after installation, with installation charged in full.

Costco's Bali storefront, Budget Blinds and 3 Day Blinds publish no measuring guarantee on the pages read. The Bali FAQ says "Contact Bali Customer Service for assistance." Budget Blinds and 3 Day Blinds measure at a free consultation (3 Day Blinds promises "a flawless fit every time") but publish no remedy if the fit is off.

Before ordering, read the most common measuring mistakes and how to measure for blinds the first time.

The fine print that decides a claim

Of the sellers whose terms were read, only SelectBlinds publishes a numeric size limit: 2 in. per side. Blinds.com and Blindster publish no figure.

  • Mount choice. FIT "does not apply to improper installation, mounting method selection, or failure to follow installation instructions"; a SureFit remake can change "size and mount". Settle the mount first with inside vs outside mount.
  • What FIT covers: SelectBlinds' pages disagree. The guarantees page says "Our FIT Protection can be selected at the time you order for free. Available for ANY window covering that you order from us." The terms exclude out-of-spec sizes, bulk orders of 25 or more products, awnings, and trade, business or reseller accounts, and limit FIT to your personal residence.
  • Blinds.com's exclusions: commercial orders (25 or more of one product), draperies, light blockers, In-Home Shutters program shutters and out-of-spec orders.
  • Blindster's exclusions: LEVOLOR products, closeouts, the Premium Exterior Solar Shade and commercial or dealer orders.
  • How to file: SelectBlinds' pages disagree. The guarantees page and terms say call 888-257-1840, and the terms require "photos or videos" of the misfit; the returns page says use Live Chat or its form and send a photo with corrected measurements. Blinds.com and Blindster say photos may be required.

Who pays shipping on a remake?

SelectBlinds pays: its guarantees page and the FIT section of its terms say it will "ship it to you at no additional cost".

  • Blinds.com: the wording differs. The SureFit page says "You don't even pay for the return shipping of your old blind!"; the home page says "We'll remake it - no returns needed".
  • Blindster: $20 per product, plus $85 on oversize items; remakes caused by its own error ship free.
  • JustBlinds (Deluxe only): a fee only on oversized products. The Shade Store: not published.

Change of mind and defects

SelectBlinds' 90-day Satisfaction Guarantee covers a change of mind (colour, mount, lift style or a feature) for 90 days, but its pages disagree on the deal. The guarantees and returns pages offer the same product and size at the price you paid, plus an additional 10% off; the terms say "minus 10% off"; a help-centre article allows "a reorder of a different product within 90 days". Every version is a new purchase at a discount, not a refund, so SelectBlinds' free samples are the cheaper way to settle colour first.

Blinds.com's 100% Satisfaction Guarantee covers "style, color, or quality" within 30 calendar days of delivery: replacements "are free of charge for products of equal value (no refunds offered)", one per product and 10 items per household per lifetime, with some named products excluded. The Shade Store applies its 40% Reorder Discount "if you end up not loving your new product".

For defects, SelectBlinds' returns page promises repair or replacement "at no cost to you" for 90 days and covers return shipping, while its warranty page names "a flat $15 return shipping charge". They may be two programmes, but neither page says so.

Where other sellers beat SelectBlinds

  • A wrong mount: a SureFit remake can change the mount as well as the size; at SelectBlinds a mount change falls to the paid change-of-mind remake.
  • A change of mind: Blinds.com swaps for an equal-value product free of charge, and Blindster can refund.
  • More tries: Blindster allows up to three remakes per order or product (its page also says once per person per lifetime), against one per product at SelectBlinds.
  • More time to fix an order: Blinds.com (24 or 12 hours, by page) and JustBlinds (24 calendar hours) allow longer than SelectBlinds' 4-hour review.

Where SelectBlinds leads: 90 days to claim measuring cover, free at checkout (60 at Blindster, 30 at Blinds.com and JustBlinds; SelectBlinds counts from the order, the others from delivery, so a slow line leaves less after arrival), plus a 90-day change-of-mind remake at a discount.

Verdict

If you want money back, most of these sellers say no; Blindster's capped refund is the main exception. If you mis-measure, SelectBlinds' FIT Protection, free at checkout, allows 90 days from the order, but only for size errors within 2 in. per side, not mount choice, and ships the remake at no additional cost. Blinds.com's SureFit allows 30 days from receipt, and its remake can change the mount as well as the size, and Blindster states its $20 remake shipping plainly.
